Anger and destruction make up the main theme in the book. Dealing with anger is a very important theme in this book. Amelia has been treated very unfairly and she is determined to get revenge. She was once the mistress of a very powerful man. She was pregnant with his son and grew to love the child. When the child was born, she was told that it was a stillborn girl, and the child was taken away. Determined to get her child back, she went to the house to ask for her son. She was rejected.
