The queer youth shelter in Brooklyn that becomes part of Henry's foundation symbolizes the future that him and Alex are to build together. While Alex slowly comes to the realization that he is queer, and then has the support of his family, Henry has always known that he is gay but cannot come out as publicly due to his family not supporting him. However, once they are able to accept their relationship and have gone through the ordeal of publicity, Alex and Henry are determined to forge their own path forward, and that involves providing shelter to disenfranchised queer youth around the globe. The shelter in Brooklyn also provides an opportunity for the two to finally live together once Henry purchases a brownstone there and once Alex begins law school at NYU.
