The Author's Tone in Raymond's Run is contemporary and almost stream of consciousness. The story is told from the viewpoint of Squeaky, a young girl whose fierce protective nature for her brother makes her abrasive towards many others. The tone, then, adopts many of Squeaky's tendencies to view the world through their potentials for threat.
