How does the love between Rappaccini & Beatrice enhance the meaning of his work as a whole?

Rappaccini shows no love for his daughter, and Beatrice's love seems to be a product of duty rather than emotion. If Rappaccini actually loved Beatrice there would have been no work..... had Beatrice known anything outside of her home..... she would like have run.
