What is the author's style in Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy?

Tom Clancy writes with authority on all things military providing authentic and technical descriptions and language. With the lay person in mind, however, he does not go over the top with this military jargon. Generally, his writing style provides great detail, sometimes losing one in its minutia. In some cases, however, he writes with an assumed posture, skipping clarifying detail. Just when one is on the verge of slipping into ennui with a lengthy passage, Clancy ambushes with a shift to new austere territory causing the reader to shake himself alert and pay attention. His style may be slightly schizophrenic by design ensuring the reader stays off balance and engaged. Clancy develops his characters in realistic terms.
