During the 1920s, when the end of slavery had finally truly taken hold and more blacks in America began to gather wealth, blacks tended to congregate in the Harlem district of Manhattan. There, the new generation of African Americans generated their own culture, playing their own music, doing their own dances and developing their own society and traditions.
