In the novel, PUSH, Precious is the main character who is 'pushed' throughout the entire novel. She is pushed in many directions, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. She is blown and battered in nearly every page of the book. Precious must learn to push back and this is shown in the courageous way that she refuses to give up even though life has shown her little kindness. People who pushed her in the past got away with it. As she begins to get help and to realize her own potential she does not allow the pushing to continue. Some of her greatest strengths come from her desire to make a better life for her children.
