The language in the story is straightforward and easily understood. There is a great deal of magic that is the basis for many of the story's, such as Jimmy's haunting, but there are not many phrases or terms given to the rituals that are seen. The blue stones placed in the back yard cover the spot where Jimmy is laying. They have a connection to Maria Owens and all of the children say that they are lucky stones, but there is never a title given to these stones other than "blue stones."
