What is the author's tone in Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell?

There is often a scientific tone to the narrative.There are portions of the novel in which the scientific explanations are lengthy and may confuse the reader. Patricia Cornwell does this to add an air of authenticity and tends to keep the lengthy discussions to a minimum in order to maintain the attention of the reader.
