Who is Beckman from Plainsong and what is their importance?

Russell Beckman is a bully. He has serious disciplinary problems. Beckman is abuse toward his girlfriend, he humiliates Victoria Roubideaux, and he attacks young children. He also has no respect for authority, something that is displayed by his violent attack on his teacher, Tom Guthrie.
