What are the motifs in Persepolis: the Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi?

Moral uncertainty is a recurring idea ot theme in this book. Politics doesn't always make sense to Marji, but adult behavior in general does not make sense to her. Things that would take on added significance to an adult—the ironies of the revolution, an uncle's heartbreak overshadowing his political oppression—are not fully understood by Marji, and as a result are never fully explained. This provides a distinct view of a culture in turmoil that never becomes overwhelmingly complex.
