The main conflict in Pericles revolves around a riddle that Pericles solves.... a riddle that exposes a family secret. In solving the riddle put to him, Pericles discovers the woman he wishes to marry is having a sexual relationship with her father. As you can guess, the revelation causes Pericles to withdraw his suit. As a result, Antiochus desires Pericles death.
