The novel is written for young adults and therefore most of the language is simple English. However, one whole group of characters in this book are kids who were born in Mexico or have Spanish-speaking parents. For this reason, many of these kids speak in Spanish or use Spanish phrases or nicknames to get their point across. Most of these phrases or words are self-explanatory, but some a reader not accustomed to this language might not understand.
