Pompey was a great Roman general. He defended Rome and rose to great power to rule along with Caesar and Crassus in the first triumvirate. Pompey engaged in a civil war with the forces of Caesar, and he was defeated on land. Afterward, he fled to Egypt to seek assistance and was murdered at the order of King Ptolemy.
