Ansar III is a symbol for injustice and global indifference. Palestine's most brutal prison, Ansar III is a rite of passage for Palestinian men, who are often thrown into the jail with no evidence. The conditions are cramped and squalid with little sanitation, a clear violation of human rights. Sacco uses Ansar III to show the world's indifference to what goes in the prison, as well as using the prison to represent the tragic reality of the Palestinian male experience.
