How does Joseph Conrad use imagery in Outpost of Progress?

Conrad's vivid depiction of the river, seeming as if to come and flow from nowhere.... to nowhere, in addition to the picture he paints of the wild, untamed forest surrounding the outpost, provides us with an overwhelming sense of isolation.
