The author's purpose is to inform and entertain. In the novel, Out of My Mind, the author tells the story of Melody Brooks, her struggle with cerebral palsy, and her desire to be seen as normal. In the end, like Melody, we learn that normal doesn't exist.... that everyone suffers from one disability or another..... that all individuals are "different".
