Like Jean, Mrs. Jewsbury is separated from the church based upon her sexual preferences. Over the course of the novel, Mrs. Jewsbury takes Jean to visit her lover, and even has a sexual encounter with Jean. Mrs. Jewsbury moves away, and Jean declines her invitation to visit.
