The main conflict in the novel is centered around the relationship between Stephanie and Morelli. Stephanie clearly struggles in the relationship with Joe Morelli. There is a strong mixture of dislike, anger, and mistrust, combated by overwhelming feelings of lust and security. Stephanie's confusion adds to the story's suspense and adds a comedic edge.
