May Dodd was institutionalized by her father as a result of her sexual promiscuity. She was a highly intelligent and witty, young woman, who was clear about her own beliefs, however unconventional. Well educated, she never felt herself to be loved enough by her ultra-wealthy family. May is the writer of the personal journals that make up this story.
