What is The Flatbush Loft?

The Flatbush loft where August lives with Niko, Myla, and Wes serves as a physical symbol of home. While August does not consider the apartment home when she first rents a room from Niko, Myla, and Wes, the relationships she develops with her roommates makes the space feel like home. She feels a sense of belonging and acceptance with her roommates which transposes onto the space. As the novel progresses, August tries to inhabit her room, fill it with personal objects, and memories instead of using it as a utilitarian place to sleep.
