F.A. Lord is the author of the Civil War Collector's Encyclopedia. In his encyclopedia, Lord notes the tendency to evade lethal confrontations even among soldiers in real live war combat. After the Battle of Gettysburg, over 27,000 muskets were found abandoned, of which 90% were loaded and at least 50% were usable.
