Henry A. Kissinger (1923 - ) is the author of On China, a work of non-fiction detailing more than forty years of involvement with foreign policy on China. Kissinger was the forerunner in establishing a modern relationship with China in the 1970s under President Richard Nixon. Kissinger was born in Germany and raised in Manhattan, in a Jewish immigrant neighborhood. After attending Harvard University, Kissinger, a Republican, became involved in politics.

The author states that the primary purpose of "On China" is to explore US-Sino relations since China became a free entity in 1949. Much of the information in the book comes from Kissinger's own notes from that time as well as declassified government documents.
