How is Lennie's treatment of his dead puppy typical of his character?

Lennie has no concept of alive or dead, really. All he knows is that the puppy isn't acting like it did before and so it is not 'working' any longer. He casts it aside. This is typical because it shows that he is completely disconnected with mainstream society.
