Thorne Athelny from Of Human Bondage is a patient that Philip meets while working at the hospital. He is a talker and very friendly. He gets to know Philip and after he is discharged from the hospital invites Philip to come over to his house to eat. They become best friends and when Philip is penniless it is Althelny that takes him in.
