Harry Griffiths from Of Human Bondage shares a house with Philip when Philip is in medical school. When Philip becomes ill it is Harry that nurses him back to health. They become best friends. Philip tells him all about his problems with Norah and Mildred. Thinking that he wants Harry and Mildred, the two most important people in his life, to meet, he arranges a get together. Mildred and Harry fall madly in love, leaving Philip heartbroken again. He gives them both money to go away, half hoping that Mildred will get the affair out of her system and come back to him. This doesn't happen and his friendship with Harry is forever destroyed.
