Philip, however, soon grows tired of her unpleasant ways, and also comes to realize that she isn't a very good artist, so he begins to avoid Fanny and hang out with other friends. One day, Philip gets a letter from Fanny asking him to come see her. When he arrives, he discovers that Fanny has hung herself. In focusing of his own needs, he never realized that Fanny was, in fact, a desperate, poverty stricken woman.
