Odysseus is an epic hero but most epic heroes have their own flaws. I think Odysseus really had issues with his pride. His excessive hubris caused Odysseus to defy prophecies of gods, he ended up becoming the sort of leader he didn't want to be. He routinely sacrificed his crew for his own whims and glory.
