Analyze the characterization of Elizabeth Bates in Odour of Chrysanthemums. Give at least two examples of what we learn about her and how we learn it.

Elizabeth is a complex character that is at once a nurturing long suffering wife to Walter, but on the other hand, bitter and harsh toward others. We learn this as we watch her having to wait for Walter to come home from the bar, and alternately we see her loving side when she takes tea and feeds her father.
