Because this novel is about a writer who is writing a novel about his relationship with Fallon, there is a good deal of literary imagery included in the novel. In some cases, Ben’s references to books double as sexual innuendo. For instance, when Amber asks Ben about the sort of book he is writing when they are together at the club, Ben indicates that he has been suffering from writer’s block, but believes he’s had a break-through. Ben’s reference to writer’s block refers to the time he has been away from Fallon. He believes he has had a breakthrough because he has seen Fallon again and believes he is on his way to convincing her to re-initiate their relationship.
