Jenny moved to Texas to get away from Ansel, which symbolically positions Texas as a representation of hope and possibility. When Packer travels to Texas to see Jenny, it becomes a similar beacon for him.... one of hope. When he actually reconnects with her, however, he realizes the truth of her feelings she, the hope she represents, and the hope that Texas represents, instead becomea triggera for his final act of murderous psychopathy.
