Tessa works at the BBC. She produces a radio show in which she speaks to political figures. The BBC symbolizes Tessa’s trait of observing the world from the outside and commenting on it, but not acting. By the end of the narrative, she no longer works for the BBC. While she literally cannot work there anymore because she is in the witness protection program, she figuratively cannot work there because she has grown. Now she participates in life as opposed to observing and commenting on it.
