Klein uses Brexit as an example of the global far-right influence behind modern policy matters. To Klein, Brexit symbolizes an increase in British nationalism that is too-frequently paired with xenophobia, racism, and austerity. After the “shock of the Brexit vote… the UK’s Conservative government began floating a range of regressive reforms” while the nation was distracted by the vote (7). Klein does not go into much detail about Brexit, but rather she casually uses it as a synonym for the same far-right forces that helped Trump secure the presidency.
