What is the author's style in Night Shift by Stephen King?

The language in these stories changes with each plot, moving from the educated speech of a man living over a hundred years ago to the slang of modern man driving cross country with his angry wife. The author uses simple English in all the stories, but the infliction and use of slang changes as the characters and settings change.
