Who is Jack Watson from Next and what is their importance?

Jack Watson is a business man who invests in bio research companies. Watson invests in BioGen, apparently with the focus on getting rich off the Burnet cell line. However, it seems Watson's goal is a far different one. Watson has his employees set Rick Diehl up by destroying the Burnet cell line and buying the cells directly from Burnet. Soon after ruining BioGen, Watson learns he has a rare genetic disorder that can be cured with cell therapy. However, the research on the therapy has not advanced far enough and Watson dies before any treatment can be utilized.
