What is the first thing Mowat does in an attempt to befriend Mike?

In an attempt to befriend Mike, Mowat shows him weapons to be used against the wolves. He also told him about some negative facts he heard about wolves. This just Mike more uncomfortable. One time, Mike even ran out of the cabin in fear because of something Mowat told him about autopsies.
