Never Cry Wolf

As Chapter 9 opens, why is the author no longer worried about his personal safety in terms of the wolves? Include a quote as evidence in addition to your explanation.

At the end of Chapter Eight, Farley notices that the wolves mark their territory every night. He then decides to follow suit and marks his own area, which confuses the wolves, but also makes them turn around and walk away. From that day forwards, he is no longer bothered.
