In "my soul to keep"... what was Alexis and Jessica view on marriage?

What were Alexis and Jessica's view on Jessica's Marriage? If possible, are there examples of it in the story?

In Chapter 3, we learn that Jessica never would have dreamed she would marry her college Spanish professor, whom she initially disliked. In a flashback, Jessica remembers that on one of their first dates together, they had seen the movie The Godfather. David accuses Jessica of seeing too much good in people because she refuses to see main character Michael Corleone as a villain, even after he kills because he is protecting the interests of his family. They talk about dating. Two weeks later they sleep together for the first time. It is on this day that David professes to Jessica that he is an atheist. She marries him anyway. Fifteen months later, she is pregnant with Kira.

Alexis thought the relationship and marriage were a mistake. She told Jessica, "don't buy it. That man is running a game on you. He'll never really care about anyone but himself."
