My Bloody Life is told in first person narrative, in past tense. This allows the mature Reymundo to share anecdotes about his life in the Kings. From the text, we can infer that enough time has passed for Sanchez to distance himself emotionally from the events he experienced and allow him to tell his story as it happened..... rather than how he wanted to remember it.
