Maria was an older woman, who lived in an apartment with her teenage daughter and her daughter's two friends. Each of the women had the reputation for being willing to have sex with anyone who would get them high. Maria thought she was doing Reymundo a favor by having sex with the fourteen-year-old boy. It was Reymundo's first time, and it is considered sexual abuse. Eventually Maria regretted her actions and allowed Reymundo to live with her when he was homeless. Acting as a mother figure, she made sure he had food, a bed and even registered him in high school.
