How does the author use foreshadowing in Mrs. Plum?

Early in the story, Karabo is asked to prepare a meal for Mrs. Plum that includes a can of peaches. Karabo is surprised because peaches are costly and not something that Mrs. Plum would normally eat. This event foreshadows Mrs. Plum's later diagnosis of cancer, a time when peaches are the only thing she can eat.
