Tabaqui comes to warn them that Shere Khan has come to hunt in their territory.

In the evening, as Father Wolf is about to go hunting, Tabaqui the jackal comes to visit the wolf cave, full of flattery, spite — and hunger. Father and Mother Wolf are not pleased to see him, but allow him to eat a bone he finds at the back of the cave. After complimenting the cubs to discomfit the parents, the jackal announces that Shere Khan, the lame tiger, has come to hunt in the wolves’ territory.
