The Peligre Dam is important to the people of Haiti because it results in their loss of arable land. Built by the US Army Corps of Engineers, it was planned to improve irrigation and generate power for businesses located downstream. It ends up flooding Cange, ruining the livelihoods of the residents, and cutting off power or electricity.
