What is the setting of Mortal Fear by Greg Iles?

The majority of the story is set in Rain, Mississippi, though the killer will strike in cities around the nation, including New Orleans, Portland, New York and Houston. The "killing house" where he has an operating room and where hostages where held and killed was in New York. The descriptions of the New York neighborhoods seem reasonable and accurate, as do the descriptions of the cities where Harper's in-laws live, including Jackson, Mississippi.
