Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni's apprentices are his two employees at Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors. They are depicted as lazy, foolish, rude.... completely obsessed with girls and parties. Over the course of the narrative, however, they respond to Mma Makutsi style and expectations, becoming both more efficient and more respectful. Mma Makutsi treats the apprentices with a firm, no-nonsense integrity that seems to awaken, in them, a new sense of respect.
