In comparison with the other characters in the story, Gail is more compassionate and more interested in justice and the way Native Americans are treated. She considers Marie a member of the family, and thus insists that Marie receive the best medical care they can provide her with. She truly feels that Marie's sickness is directly connected with Frank's abuse.
