What evidence leads Ben to suspect that Diana was, in fact, murdered in the novel, Mistress?

When Diana first dies, Ben suspects that she has been murdered because the apple geraniums that she loves were knocked from her balcony. Ben thinks that even if she had been trying to kill herself, she would not have done anything to destroy these plants.
