Emmett Till is from Chicago, Illinois, visiting Money, Mississippi to spend time with his relatives during the summer. He has never lived in the South, thus, he is different from those who live there. Emmett dresses differently, he has different expectations, and he is unfamiliar with the terrain. He doesn't understand why he is treated differently in Money than he is in Chicago.... he is friendly, conversational, and he reaches out to make friends with Hiram, not knowing what the problem is with their being friends.
