What lesson does Jean Medza learn at the end of the story?

In short, Medza learns that the very thing his family wanted, his education, alienates him from his family. His family is disgraced by the fact that he did not finish school..... but in the village, he is embraced and even revered. Thus in my opinion, he learns that sometimes.... you can't go home.
