Forgiveness is an underlying metaphor. In the novel Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind, forgiveness plays in important part in the life of the main character, Julia Springer. Julia is a strong-willed woman, who lives her life after forty-four years of marriage as she believes her husband would want her to. Things change for Julia when she discovers that her pious and self-righteous husband has spent the past ten years living in sin, and has fathered a child out of wedlock.
